    The course is aimed at experienced gas operatives who wish to carry out tightness testing and direct purging of commercial/industrial installation pipework where the volume exceeds 1m³. 

    It covers the skills and knowledge required to ensure pipework is safe and compliant, including leak-testing and purging procedures, before commissioning or re-commissioning gas installations.

    • Tightness testing (soundness testing) of installation pipework. 
    • Direct purging of installation pipework. 
    • Volume calculations and assessments of pipework (to verify > 1 m³ volume). 
    • Risk assessment and safety procedures for high-pressure installations (natural gas up to 16 bar, LPG up to 2 bar). 
    • Practical exercises and assessments to verify compliance in testing and purging.

    The course is aimed at experienced gas operatives working in or moving into the commercial/industrial gas sector, especially those dealing with large-volume pipework installations.

    Entry Prerequisite:
    Delegates must already hold a core or changeover commercial gas safety qualification to attend this course, such as:
    • COCN1 (Core Commercial Gas Safety)
    • CODNCO1 (Changeover Domestic to Commercial Gas Safety)
    • Or equivalent core catering/LPG or domestic-to-commercial gas safety certification.

    Pre-Course Reading:
    Delegates are strongly recommended to acquire a recognised Gas Safety Training Manual beforehand.

    On successful completion, delegates receive certification in TPCP1, authorising them to perform tightness testing and purging of commercial/industrial pipework > 1 m³ in volume (natural gas up to 16 bar, LPG up to 2 bar).  

    As with other ACS gas safety modules, certification requires periodic renewal to remain valid.

    The course runs for 3 days, combining classroom-theory with practical hands-on training/assessment.

    The course covers pre-use checks, pipework calculations, hazard awareness, tightness testing, and direct purging techniques, following IGE/UP/1 procedures.

    Experienced commercial gas operatives responsible for commissioning, testing, or purging pipework exceeding 1 m³ in volume, in commercial or industrial installations.

    Q5. Are there any entry requirements for this course? 
    Yes. Delegates must hold a valid Core Commercial Gas Safety certificate or equivalent to attend this course and have a good understanding of written and spoken English. Delegates should be in good health and physically able to take part in practical activities.     How the Training Works 

    Q6. How is the course delivered? 
    Training is conducted in-person, combining classroom theory with hands-on practical exercises on large-volume pipework, guided by a qualified trainer.

    Q7. What should delegates bring on the day?
    Delegates are required to bring PPE, including safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard hat (preferably chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection and suitable clothing that includes a long sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted). Where practical demonstrations are conducted outside, delegates must wear suitable waterproof clothing.

    Q9. How is the course assessed? 
    Assessment includes written and practical assessments covering pre-use checks, tightness testing, and direct purging of large-volume pipework that follows ACS guidance.

    Q10. What certification will I receive? 
    Successful delegates who complete the required assessment(s) for this course will receive a LCL certificate and identification card, valid for 5 years. Certificates can take up to 28 working days to be processed. If you haven't received your certificate after this time please email trainingadmin@hss.com.
