    This qualification aims to ensure that the ‘Responsible Person,’ as outlined in IEC60079-14 and/or IEC60079-17 have the skills and knowledge required to meet these standards. This is done by assessing the delegates individual ability in relation to these standards, allowing them to oversee operatives involved in the selection, installation, inspection and maintenance of equipment in explosive atmospheres.

    • Terminology explanations (ATEX Marking etc.)
    • Area Classification for Inspection Engineers
    • Management tools and methodologies for Inspection Management
      • Assessing Competence
      • Risk Assessment
      • Auditing
      • Calibration and Safety Devices (trips and test intervals)
    • Explosion Protection Levels (categories and EPL) & Protection Concepts
    • Ex Inspection requirements
    • Determining inspection frequency and type (IEC60079-17)
    • Ex Inspection covering visual, close and detailed inspections for all concepts
    • Analysing and acting on Ex Inspection data (including EI Guidance on Managing Ex Inspection)
      • Environmental factors
      • Understanding Risk based approaches

    Assessment:
    Delegates will carry out an assessment the contains multiple-choice questions and an applied knowledge exam covering the Ex14 unit in full.

    Delegates who are in a senior supervisory role including duties such as being responsible for managing staff, processes and procedures regarding potentially explosive atmospheres, electrical and non-electrical (mechanical) equipment, protective systems and installations.

    Prerequisite: 
    • HNC or equivalent qualification 
    • A general understanding of relevant electrical engineering, with the ability to read and evaluate engineering drawings 
    • A basic knowledge of quality assurance practices, such as the principles of auditing, documentation control and traceability 
    • A letter of endorsement from your employer confirming the delegates current or intended roles as a Responsible Person/Duty Holder.

    Upon successful completion, delegates will be awarded with a CompEx Certificate in Core Competence. This certification is valid for 5 years.
